What is Canola Biodiesel?

Canola, and the canola plant, with several varieties that are used to make canola oil, is a preferred biodiesel feedstock in the U.S. and Canada.

Canola oil is obtained after the canola seed, one of many "oilseed crops," is harvested.  In a process called "oilseed crushing," the oil is removed from the canola seed, which is now referred to as Crude Canola OilThe Crude Canola Oil is then refined, which removes impurities, becoming Refined Canola Oil, and then goes through the biodiesel process, (transesterification), becoming Canola Biodiesel.

Depending on the variety, canola seed contains about 40 to 50 percent of its weight  in canola oil, as compared with only 20 percent for soybeans. It can be planted and harvested with the same equipment used for small grains. In addition, canola oil offers certain advantages in the production of B100 Biodiesel.

What is Crude Canola Oil?

Crude Canola Oil is the name of the oil after it is first extracted from the seeds of the canola plant.

Crude Canola Oil is one of the primary vegetable oils used in production of B100 Biodiesel

Canola oil, which is very safe (compared with rapeseed oil) for human consumption, was developed from the rapeseed plant. Developed in Canada, the "can" in canola, refers to Canada, the country of origin.

What is Refined Canola Oil?

Refined Canola Oil is the product after Crude Canola Oil has been "refined," removing the contaminants and impurities, and been through the RBD process or has been Refined, Bleached and Deodorized.

Refined Canola Oil is used in everyday cooking as a cooking oil and frying oil of choice, as well as in; beauty, cosmetics (soaps and shampoos), foods/food processing, healthcare, nutraceuticals, industrial oils and the pharmaceutical industry.
